Let's move on to show you the cheats after the introduction we just wrote.
Tranq, Pitfall and Shock Traps stun a monster for two turns, counting the turn you set them off. They're not just for capturing: trapping a monster right before it lands an attack that could wipe out a partner with a bad matchup is often the only way to avoid losing that turn.
With the Gunlance you can load up eight shells and then switch to a Monstie that has no Kinship charge yet: using the eight-shell move on that new partner fills its gauge to the max in a single exchange, letting you save a full Kinship ride for when it really matters, against bosses you can't beat head-on.
Before pouring resources into weapons or accessories, upgrade your armor first: it's the upgrade that affects early-game survival the most, when the damage you take is still a bigger threat than how fast you can bring a monster down.
Royal Monsters start appearing from area 2 onward, and getting an egg from one can be a huge shortcut in the early hours. Tigrex, for example, can show up as a Royal already in area 2, two areas before its normal appearance, giving you a Monstie far stronger than you'd expect at that point in the story.
If a quest rewards a new Monstie you're interested in, it's worth waiting to turn it in until that partner is already in your active party: some completion bonuses only apply to party members active at that moment, not retroactively to whoever joins later.
Eggs you pick up while exploring need to be regularly converted through the Rite of Channeling to power up your existing Monsties' skills or teach them new moves: letting them pile up in the Stable without using them holds back your squad's growth far more than it seems at first.
