Elex has a very steep difficulty curve at the start, and rushing into a fight without gaining a few levels first almost always leads to a quick death. Many quests seem to require facing a tough enemy, but often you can complete the objective by bypassing opponents rather than engaging them; it pays to put off real fights until your gear and skills have been upgraded a bit.
Opponents with a skull icon next to their health bar should be avoided entirely in the early stages: they aren't meant to be tackled right away, and engaging them prematurely is one of the most common causes of sudden death during the game's opening hours.
Putting 20 points into Constitution unlocks three skills worth having right from the start: Stamina Up, Health Up, and Good Eater—the latter of which triples the benefits of the food you consume. It is an investment that pays off more in the long run than going all-in on a single weapon or school of magic during the early hours.
Weapon Modification and Chemistry provide a huge advantage for any type of build.Chemistry allows you to brew potions from plants gathered throughout the world—including potions that permanently boost your stats for a minimal investment of skill points;Weapon Modification, on the other hand, remains the most reliable way to improve the gear you already own, rather than hoping for a better drop.
To steal from a character, you first need to have learned at least one level of the Pickpocket skill, then approach the target while in stealth mode; only then does the option to pickpocket them appear.Without that combination (unlocked skill plus active sneak mode), the option simply remains invisible in the interaction menu.
