Start battle mode with any character. If this is the same fighter selection screen, the character and press R2.

Start battle mode with any character. Highlight the same fighter in the screen of character select and press Start.
Extra Characters
Completed the mode to a player with any character. In the selection of the characters, press Start on a character to get a secret.
