RESONANCE A PLAGUE TALE LEGACY

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes flight on PC: technical analysis dispels doubts about consoles.

A benchmark with eight different GPUs shows solid frame rates up to native 4K, while on consoles the game still suffers from the criticisms of its launch.

p>The launch of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy was accompanied by more than one complaint about the frame rate—we reported it ourselves, both at the launch on August 27th and in the review a few days later, when powerup-gaming reported recurring crashes on PS5 Pro on Nightmare difficulty. On PC, however, the picture is quite different.

A technical analysis published on September 3 by DSOGaming tested the game on a Ryzen 9 7950X3D with eight different GPUs, from the RTX 2080 Ti to the RTX 5090. At 1080p with maximum details, all the cards held up without a hitch, including the 2080 Ti.At 1440p, only the 2080 Ti and the RX 6900XT broke the 60 fps threshold, but they were still playable with FreeSync or G-Sync enabled. And at native 4K with maximum details, the five most powerful GPUs in the test remained smooth—the RX 9070XT barely dropped to 58 fps.

That's quite a lot for a game that has posed technical issues on consoles since day one.The title supports FSR 3.0 and DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Gen (Intel's XeSS is missing), and according to the analysis, there are no significant stutters or issues with mouse and keyboard. However, there remains one limitation that optimization alone doesn't solve: the bakata lighting and lack of ray tracing make the visual quality more inconsistent than the fluidity would suggest.
