Start with the Allied campaign, not the German one

The recommended order is Allies, then Soviets, and only at the end the Germans: the German campaign introduces more advanced mechanics and is built for players already comfortable with the other two - tackling it first is likely to just be discouraging.

Send infantry ahead, never armored vehicles

If you push vehicles into the front line, enemy AT guns will turn them into scrap before you even spot where they're dug in: always send a small infantry team forward first, preferably crawling and with non-aggressive stance on, to scout the ground without losing a tank.

Use scouts for field of view

Scouts are the most underrated weapon in the game: infantry, and officers especially, have the widest and longest field of view, while tanks see very little compared to their guns' actual range.

Keep infantry escorting your tanks

A lone tank shoots farther than it can see: without infantry or other units supporting it, it's blind across most of its own effective range. Keeping other troops alongside it extends the visible area and avoids nasty surprises.

Use "Attack Ground" to hit where the enemy is hiding

For armored vehicles and artillery, the "Attack Ground" order lets you target a specific area where you suspect the enemy is positioned: the unit ignores other targets and keeps hitting that spot until it runs out of ammo or gets a different order.
