Ratatan Builds and Cards Guide
Make the most of the Ratakaruta card screen with this in-depth guide designed to clear up every doubt. Let's break down the game system together to help you pick the right strategy and avoid random decisions during your runs.
Don't rush the command before its time
Ratatan's rhythm follows a fixed pattern: three beats of commands and a rest, during which your Ratatan adds its own little flourish before the next round starts. Players who jump straight into the next command and skip that rest see the input not register and think they messed up: it's not lag, it's the game breathing. If the timing keeps slipping away from you, counting the rest out loud feels ridiculous but genuinely works.
Always aim for "Just", not just "on time"
Every input gets a rating - Just, Good or Bad - depending on how close you land to the beat. Three Just ratings in a row make your Cobun's hits noticeably harder, and that's exactly where the game's real skill curve hides: the moment you stop settling for "on time" and start aiming for Just, the difficulty stops feeling random.
Pick your Ratatan based on the role you need
Each character drastically changes your Melodium ability and how your Cobun behave. Mimisnipe, the owl-like Ratatan, goes for weak points at long range with near-unerring accuracy; Harigitan, the hedgehog, holds up better on defense and answers with counters. Picking the right character for the fight ahead matters more than any upgrade.
Watch the boss's mask
During boss fights, the enemy's mask changes expression once it's close to defeat - an easy detail to miss while keeping the beat, but a useful cue for when to push the finishing blow instead of playing it safe.
Save your Fever for the tough moments
Landing command sequences quickly and precisely charges the Fever gauge, which boosts your Cobun's actions: it's worth holding onto rather than burning the moment it fills during the calmer stretches of a level.
