Unlike health and supplies, the currency called Shards doesn't reset upon death: you can always return to the Workbench with enough resources to restock shotgun shells, grenades, and power-ups, without having to start over every time a run goes badly.
Dying returns you to a safe room equipped with a pod that restores health and medical supplies, but this return also causes enemies in the surrounding area to respawn.Use that room to calmly plan your next foray instead of rushing back to the area you just left.
