The most noticeable change compared to the original installment isn't in the plot but in the camera: we move from the 2D top-down view of the first Moonlighter to a fully 3D isometric setting.Checkpoint Gaming titled it "Money never sleeps," while GameSpew sums it up in a few words—fight, loot, sell, repeat—which is exactly the gameplay cycle that made the first installment popular: by day, you run the shop with the loot you recover in the dungeons, and by night, you return to explore, ever deeper.

The overall rating on Metacritic is mixed to positive.Finger Guns particularly praised the PC version, dubbing it "Adventure Capital" in the review title, but more than one critic noted the same limitation: branching expeditions are a good idea, but the variety might not be enough to sustain the entire duration of the game.On Nintendo Life, the review of the Switch 2 version speaks of "big changes" while maintaining the same addictive cycle.
