Retro Roundup isn't a single game but a real compilation: inside you'll find Toy Story (1995), Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! and the separate Toy Story 2 from 1999, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000), Toy Story Racer (2001) and, as a bonus, A Bug's Life (1998). It's worth knowing in advance which title you want to tackle, since each has a different genre — platformer, racing, action — and they don't all hold up equally well at the same pace.
By holding the dedicated button you can scrub the action back to right before your mistake and try again immediately, without reloading the whole level. On older titles like Toy Story Racer, where certain jumps or turns were already punishing back in 2001, this feature alone changes the whole experience.
You can watch a guided run of any level and then take control at any point during the recording, instead of having to learn the route through trial and error. Especially useful on the collection's older, less intuitive games, like the original 1995 Toy Story.
Every game can be played with either the original graphics and resolution or an upgraded version: switch between the two to really see how much the work on the models has changed, instead of just reading about it in a press release.
The collection includes previously unseen archival material, six featurettes with interviews from people who worked on the original games — including folks from Pixar and TT Games — and even actor Jim Hanks, the longtime voice of Woody. It's worth watching them before diving into the games: they explain design choices that would otherwise be unclear on titles over twenty years old.
