Pawprint Studio has set the date for its open-world creature collector: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series XS from September 16, mobile a week later. The highlight is called Twining, and it's not just monster riding.
The comparison to Pokémon is natural and partly intentional: you take on the role of a Pathfinder and explore the continent of Idyll hunting over 200 creatures, which change behavior depending on the weather and biome. So far, nothing revolutionary in the genre. The interesting part is how you interact with them: you have to observe them in their habitat, photograph them while they do something specific, almost like a naturalist's job rather than a trainer with a Pokéball in hand.
The real novelty, however, is Twining: your character can literally merge with a captured Aniimo and take direct control of it, both in combat and to overcome obstacles while exploring. An idea that on paper solves a typical problem of the genre, that of always being one step behind your creatures during real-time battles.
There's also multiplayer and a customizable house system, but Twining is the reason why this title is worth keeping an eye on among the many creature collectors coming out this year.On September 16th, we'll find out if it holds up to the test of reality.
