The Coalition confirms October 6, 2026, for the release of Gears of War: E-Day on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass, with early access starting October 1 for Premium Edition owners.
The prequel follows a young Marcus Fenix alongside Dominic Santiago, set on the very day the Locust first emerge onto the surface. The Coalition has rebuilt the game's systems, controls, and visuals from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5—not merely a texture polish, according to the studio, but a complete reimagining of how the weapons feel. The campaign can be played solo, in two-player split-screen on console, or online with up to four players.
Three editions have been announced: Standard, Premium (featuring the aforementioned early access), and an over-the-top Collector's Edition. The latter includes a collectible statue of Marcus and Dom, a replica of Carlos Santiago's COG tags, an art print, and a special SteelBook case.Pre-ordering any edition also grants access to the open beta (which launched on August 6), an Exfil-themed weapon set, and the legendary Exfil Dom skin.
A confirmed date after months of rumors is always welcome, but the real question remains: for a franchise that has thrived on cover-based combat for nearly twenty years, can a prequel truly surprise players who have already witnessed the Locust's origins dozens of times? We’ll let you know as soon as we get our hands on the game.
