ONIMUSHA WAY OF THE SWORD

Onimusha: Way of the Sword hits 128 fps in 4K on the RTX 5090, but the Switch 2 version hides a compromise

A week before launch, initial technical details have emerged: solid PC performance with DLSS 4.5 and FSR 3.1, while on Nintendo Switch 2, motion controls work only with detached Joy-Cons.

p>In our previous report, we covered the sales boom of *Onimusha: Way of the Sword*—over a million copies in 24 hours—as well as early complaints regarding its difficulty.A week after launch, technical data has arrived, and for PC gamers, the numbers are impressive: paired with an RTX 5090 and a Core i9-14900K, the game hits 128 fps at 4K with optimized settings, rising to 263 fps at 1080p and 226 fps at 1440p.Even older cards perform well—the RTX 4090 and 5080 stay above 60 fps at 4K with maxed-out settings, thanks to support for DLSS 4.5 (with Multi-Frame Generation) and FSR 3.1.

Minimum requirements remain quite reasonable for 2026 standards: Windows 11, DirectX 12, 16 GB of RAM, and 50 GB of free SSD space—nothing prohibitive, considering how well-honed Capcom’s RE Engine is across multiple hardware generations.

The situation changes on the Nintendo Switch 2. The console handles the graphics engine well—another point in favor of the RE Engine, already proven with *Resident Evil Village* and other titles—but a *Creative Bloq* review highlights a tangible limitation: the motion controls for the Joy-Con 2, designed to mimic sword swings, only work when holding the Joy-Cons separately, not when using the Pro Controller.

It is an inconsistency that the site compares to similar choices seen in *Resident Evil Requiem*, and one that offers hope for a corrective patch.

Amidst record sales and solid PC performance, the only real downside to this launch remains the same as it was a week ago: the difficulty level, not the frame rate.
