After its September 24 launch, the PC version of Silent Hill: Townfall is experiencing frame rate drops and crashes. No issues have been reported on PS5 and Xbox.
In our September 9th news story about the 18-minute gameplay video, we wondered whether the formula would hold up. Artistically, yes, but technically on PC, less so: Silent Hill: Townfall was released on September 24th (from the 22nd for those who had the Digital Deluxe version) and on Steam, user ratings are currently "Contrast."
The bulk of the negative reviews mention poor performance even on high-end hardware and a few crashes. Almost no one, however, criticizes St. Amelia's visuals or atmosphere, and even those who pan it are saving it. Konami has confirmed that a performance patch is in the works.
The day one patch, it must be said, was a polishing patch, not a content patch: about 3.8 GB on PC and 4.2 GB on PS5. According to the tech press, it's already improved some things and user ratings have risen, but we haven't found any official numbers to confirm this.
No similar issues have been reported on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you have an older PC, our advice is to wait for the patch before buying it. Have you tried it yet?
