METAL GEAR SOLID MASTER COLLECTION VOLUME 2

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2: while the compilation wins over Metacritic, a Volume 3 rumor already surfaces

Released on August 27 with MGS4, Peace Walker and Ghost Babel, Konami's compilation has an excellent critical reception. And according to a rumor circulating on September 4, a third volume with Revengeance and Phantom Pain might already be in the works.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 has been on the market for a few weeks now, released on August 27 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and in the meantime critics have given their verdict: 85 on Metacritic, a score that mostly rewards the quality of the remasters.

The compilation finally brings Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots off PlayStation 3, where it had been locked away since 2008, together with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in its HD Collection version. As a bonus there's Metal Gear: Ghost Babel and a digital soundtrack, plus an interactive encyclopedia dedicated to the saga's lore.

Not everything, though, is just a celebration of the past. On September 4, journalist Jordan Middler (VGC), citing information gathered on the Nextlander Podcast, floated the idea of a Volume 3 already in the works at Konami, with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain among the titles included. Revengeance would reportedly get a proper port to modern platforms, while Phantom Pain, together with Ground Zeroes, would arrive with native current-gen versions running up to 60 fps.

Take it with a grain of salt: Middler himself admitted he has no official confirmation, and considering it took about three years between the first and second volume, a possible Volume 3 would hardly arrive before 2029. Anyone hoping for the return of Phantom Pain's cut content, meanwhile, shouldn't get their hopes up: the rumor only talks about technical improvements, not never-before-seen story material.

We at apocanow have already updated our guide to the compilation, and we'll keep an eye on any development on the Volume 3 front.
