NEVERWAY

Neverway, the horror life sim from Celeste's artist, pushed to 2027: the free demo is (partly) to blame

Coldblood Inc., the studio founded by former Celeste pixel artist Pedro Medeiros, delays the launch after reactions to the playable prologue: no more October 1, 2026.

IGDB's calendar still listed it for October 1st, but that date stopped existing back in late August: Coldblood Inc. has pushed Neverway to 2027, without setting an exact day for now. The studio didn't mince words about it: "We've been hard at work on Neverway, but we've made the difficult decision to shift the release date to 2027."

Behind the unfamiliar name is a signature that platformer fans know well: Pedro Medeiros, pixel artist on Celeste for years, founded Coldblood together with programmer Isadora Sophia specifically to carry this project forward. The result is a hard-to-pin-down hybrid - daily island life, farm work, family dinners - that breaks apart the moment Fiona, the protagonist, ends up in debt to a dead god and becomes its immortal herald. The soundtrack comes from Disasterpeace, the same composer behind Fez and the film It Follows - not exactly the name you'd expect on a life sim.

According to Coldblood, the delay stems directly from the free playable prologue released on Steam: player reactions and internal testing convinced the team the game needed more time, rather than a rushed launch to meet a window announced months earlier. A choice that feels contrarian, at a time when so many indie studios would rather ship anyway and chase patches afterward.
