Almost a month after launch, Onimusha: Way of the Sword still hasn't received a real patch. The build Steam is serving is still 01.000.001, the same preload version published on September 2, two days before the official launch on September 4 - Capcom, in other words, hasn't touched the code since before the game was even purchasable.
In our previous story we already flagged the silence two weeks after launch. Since then nothing has changed: no patch notes on any platform, despite the game selling over a million copies on day one alone and earning some of the year's best reviews (85-86 on Metacritic).
On Steam forums and Reddit, players keep reporting issues that are anything but cosmetic: a bug that blocks progress during the "Okuni Kabuki Dance" mission, plus complaints about checkpoints placed too far apart before the final boss, forcing whole sections to be replayed after every death.
The contrast with the critical reception stays stark. A game praised almost everywhere, held back by flaws any other publisher would have fixed within the first week. Worth wondering whether Capcom is prepping a bigger update instead of chasing individual reports one by one - but until it arrives, the problems are still the same ones from launch day.
