Galaga Guide: Tips and Mistakes to Avoid in the Arcade Classic
We analyze the mechanics of the famous arcade game Galaga to discover how to survive the alien waves. The video demonstrates the most useful strategies—such as managing dual ships—for tackling the toughest levels and improving your score.
Where to find the Vent Master chip and the breaker room code
The Vent Master upgrade chip is behind the staircase in the maintenance closet: it lets you enter air vents silently and is the first upgrade to grab if you want to take on Aurora 5 in stealth. The breaker room code is 1977, the year Saturday Night Fever came out — a detail the game only hints at if you know the station's disco-punk aesthetic.
Death isn't a game over, but it's not free either
When you die, you're automatically cloned in the nearest cloning bay, not reloading a save. Every death, though, adds a random degeneration effect — lower max health, slower movement, visual distortion, or a permanent cosmetic change. Your previous body stays where you died with all your inventory: you have to go back and interact with it to reclaim it, but if you die again before that, that corpse and its inventory vanish for good.
Shoot out lights to create safe zones
Shooting lights creates temporarily safe areas from enemies that use them to spot you. The Electro-Javelin's charged shot disables lights in a 5-meter radius, handy for crossing patrolled corridors without having to take out every single sentry.
How do you hack the central mainframe?
Hacking the central mainframe lets you reprogram the station's defenses and turn them against the enemy: from there, you can just stay back and let the automated systems clear out entire rooms for you. It's the most efficient approach against large groups, much better than fighting them head-on.
Explore in stealth, then come back guns blazing
Every enemy type on Aurora 5 behaves differently, with its own abilities and weaknesses. It's worth crossing unfamiliar areas in stealth to learn the patterns and layout, then coming back "in broad daylight" once you've memorized the map — a safer approach than improvising on the first try.
Every obstacle has more than one solution
A locked door or a missing keycard rarely blocks the path for good: you can sneak through a vent, hack a nearby terminal to vent toxic gas into the room, create a diversion, or use Mutamods to get past the obstacle in ways the game never explicitly explains.
