Echo Weaver: Gameplay and Time-Loop Mechanics in the Demo
This video shows the initial stages of the Echo Weaver demo, focusing on the Metroidbrainia genre. Discover how exploration and progression are based solely on knowledge gained in the time loop, rather than traditional items or power-ups.
How do you remember where to go in each loop?
Echo Weaver is a looping Metroidvania: you explore until you die or the timer runs out, then start over. The levels are hand-drawn and not randomly generated, so memorizing the location of a spiked block or a switch really helps the next time.
What actually unlocks?
No traditional power-ups. Secrets are your upgrades, and knowledge is the only progression. What you discover in a loop matters more than any stat.
Is it worth breaking rubble along the way?
Yes, breaking rubble gives you resources. On your second or third attempt on sections you've already cleared, you save precious seconds, and those seconds are spent testing the switches that open the next gate.
How tough are the first gates?
Very tough: the first gate closes after only ten seconds, so don't stop to look at the scenery during the first cycle.
Are there any advanced moves?
Some sections require a near-perfect double jump followed by a roll jump, which bounces off an enemy and gets you to the glaive launch point. This is something to be repeated slowly, one cycle at a time.
