Tricks and Glitches

Easier Bosses

If you can't beat a boss, leave the game running (not paused, with automatic standby disabled) for about 12 hours, then resume.

Recovering Blood Echoes

When you die, as soon as the title appears immediately press the PS button in the middle of the controller, then Options and choose "Close Application". Restart the game and choose "Continue": instead of returning to the lamp, you reappear where you died with all your Blood Echoes. The enemy that killed you will still be there. If it is a boss you find yourself just outside the area, and you will have to cross the fog again to recover the Blood.

Easy Insight

Buy Madman's Knowledge from the Bath Messenger. They cost Blood Echoes, so buy them only when you don't need to level up.

Duplicating Items (version 1.01, no longer available)

It was a glitch for duplicating Quicksilver Bullets and Blood Echoes. Create a second character and teleport it to the Hunter's Dream; put a Pebble in the chest, quit the game and return to the title. With the main character go to the Hunter's Dream, sell everything in the chest and put in its place the item to duplicate (for example Coldblood for Blood Echoes). All the Pebbles in the chest are converted into that item.

Chalices and Dungeons

They are needed for the ritual that creates a Chalice Dungeon, together with materials (Ritual Blood, Blood Echoes and others).

  • Pthumeru Chalice: obtained by defeating the Blood-Starved Beast (depth 1 dungeon). The Central Pthumeru Chalice (depth 2) comes from the Pthumeru boss (depth 1, layer 3); the Lower Pthumeru Chalice (depth 3) from the boss of Central Pthumeru (depth 2, layer 3).
  • Defiled Chalice (depth 4): defeat the boss of Lower Pthumeru (depth 3, layer 4). You use Ritual Blood (4) x9, Bastard of Loran x2, Blood Echoes 5,500 and Arcane Haze x22.
  • Ailing Loran Chalice (depth 4): defeat Amygdala. Lower Loran Chalice (depth 5): defeat the Abhorrent Beast.
  • Great Isz Chalice (depth 5): defeat Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos.
  • Sinister Chalice (depth 2): in a side chest in Pthumeru, depth 2.

Insight

  • How to earn it: enter a boss arena (1), defeat a boss (3), defeat a boss as a multiplayer guest (1), consume a Madman's Knowledge (1), be grabbed by a lesser Amygdala in the Cathedral Ward (1), send a quest NPC to Iosefka's safe house, kill a player with the Beckoning Bell (1), talk to Master Willem (2), use a third of the Umbilical Cord.
  • How to lose it: dying after an invasion with the Beckoning Bell (-1), using the Bell's summon (-1) or spending Insight on Messenger items after 10 points. Some enemies steal it.
  • Effects: it is needed to activate the Plain Doll in the Hunter's Dream and to level up. At 10 points Messengers sell items, above 20 some enemies become stronger, at 40 the lesser Amygdala appear.
  • What you buy: Pungent Blood Cocktail (attracts beasts), Small Resonant Bell (join another player), Sinister Bell (invade another hunter), Fire Paper and Bolt Paper.

Endings

  • Good ending: accept Gehrman's offer (trophy Yharnam Sunrise).
  • Bad ending: refuse Gehrman's offer (trophy Honoring Wishes).
  • True ending: collect the three pieces of "One Third of Umbilical Cord" (kill Mergo; find it in the Abandoned Workshop; save Arianna, who gives birth in Oedon Chapel, then kill the child in the Cathedral Ward) and kill Iosefka in her clinic. Consume them before refusing the final offer.
  • Plain Doll: in the Hunter's Dream, with at least 1 point of Insight, perform the Bow gesture: she bows. With the Hunter's gesture she claps.
