Today, October 1st, at 6 AM on the West Coast (3 PM in Italy), the review embargo for Gears of War: E-Day ends. The actual launch is October 6th on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with the game included in Game Pass from day one.
In our previous news, we told you about the date and the editions. Now it's the numbers that count. When we checked, there were no scores on Metacritic yet: the page requires at least four reviews before displaying the score.
What The Coalition has already stated is the length. According to creative director Matt Searcy, the campaign lasts about 14 hours, longer than any other the studio has built, with more items to collect than ever before, including COG tags. All four members of Bravo Squad are playable from the start. The level remains linear, but with larger areas to explore, and the studio assures that no generative artificial intelligence was used.
The pressure is on. The latest Gears game, Gears of War: Reloaded, only scored 79 on Metacritic, and the previous installments in the main series were much higher. Insider Gaming also points out that the studio is coming off a year of layoffs at Xbox.
We're curious and a little skeptical: fourteen hours of cover-based shootouts is a lot, if the pace slows down by half. We'll be back with our impressions as soon as the scores stabilize. And you, are you ready to reserve your couch yet?
