Cheats and Tips for Dead island on PC

Introduction and Game Plot

Dead Island is Techland's action-survival game set on an island overrun by zombies, here in the PC version. This page contains tips that exploit the game's rules. It explains that at the end of the game, you can start a new game while keeping your inventory and weapons, and provides a method for duplicating items for the pre-updated version of the game. There's also a solution.

Cheats

New Game+: complete the game and choose "Next Game": you start over with your inventory, weapons and blueprints.
Easy money: in the warehouse take the Hammer and the Baseball Bat, travel to the Church and sell them for $400; go back to the warehouse and they are there again (you must have discovered Town, Church and Warehouse). Or collect the valuables in an area, fast travel elsewhere, sell them and come back: they have respawned. In the Swamp, an abandoned building at the far end of the map, once cleared, is full of valuables.
Easy Molotovs: after Act 3, in the hotel, in the room with tables and chairs there are 10 bottles of alcohol that come back when you leave and re-enter; take them to Harlan: every 3 bottles make a Molotov.
Big groups of zombies: climb onto the front of a vehicle and crouch: they cannot hit you but you can hit them (do not climb on the roof). Drowning zombies: run into the water and hit them for easy XP.
Weapons that do not break: when the weapon is about to break, throw it at the zombies: it deals damage without wearing out until the next repair.

Duplicating Items (outdated version)

After a checkpoint leave items on the ground, then kill yourself with a bomb; while the countdown runs, reload the previous save: you have the weapons and also find them on the ground (you still lose the death money).
Equip a throwable weapon and press [Throw Weapon] and [Drop Weapon]: you throw it but also find it on the ground; repeat.
As Logan hold [Aim], then [Fury] while aiming at several zombies, and press [Attack/Throw Weapon]: instead of the knife he throws the weapon, duplicating it.
Deo-Bombs: travel to a materials merchant and get to 30: every additional Deo-Bomb creates 30 more.

Collectibles

Banoi Heralds (16): at the foot of your bed as soon as you wake up (no. 1); in the "Exodus" quest on the table with the computer in the Surf Shop (2) and in the Watchtower behind the desk (3); in the Red, Gold, Silver and Diamond Bungalow District (4-8); in the Watchtower bunker (9); in the Marine Shop and in the west bunker (10-11); in Harlan Johnson's house, near the bed (12); in the hotel during "Born to Be Wild" (13-16).
ID Cards (30): scattered around the village and the hotel; for example no. 1 in a blue briefcase in front of Bungalow 4 ("Passport To Life" quest), no. 2 in the Coastal Pier bar above the weapons crate, no. 7 on crates in the bunker unlocked by "Black Hawk Down", no. 14 in the gas station during "Seek And Loot", no. 24 on the roof of the South Gas Station, no. 25 on the whiteboard of a crashed truck about 180 meters north of the station, nos. 26-30 in the hotel during "Born to Be Wild".
Investigation Tapes: 1) Chapter 1, under the bookcase in John Sinamoi's Bungalow; 2) Chapter 2, during "On The Air" at the top of the lighthouse on a table behind James Stein; 3) Chapter 2, in the hotel during "Born to Be Wild", on a table on the right toward the pool.

Colored Skulls

Find the skull and place it at the indicated spot to get a blacksmith blueprint.

Purple Skull: in the "It's Our Own Fault" shrine in the Moresby sewers (after "Let The Waters Flow", Act 2 Chapter 5), in a chest. Drop-off: in the abandoned house of "Uninvited Guests" in Moresby, in Alicia Jacobs' room, on the stove. Reward: Developer's No. 4, Mindblowing Military Knife (5 diamonds, 1 battery, $10,000).
Blue Skull: in the room where you drop off the Purple Skull, in a glass cabinet. Drop-off: in the south bunker near the beach (opens in Act 2/3): use the portal to the second bunker with the graffiti, climb the ladder and blow up the door on the right with a propane tank; behind it is the skull spot. Reward: Developer's No. 3, Plaguebearer Military Knife (5 diamonds, 1 oleander, $10,000).
Black Skull: in the pile of bodies in the second bunker (unlocked in "Black Hawk Down"). Drop-off: on top of the hill near ID card 004 on the coast. Reward: Developer's 666, Left Hand of Glova (5 diamonds, $10,000).
Green Skull: on the tip of the coast east of the South Gas Station, reachable from the northeast side near the overturned ship (open chest). Drop-off: in the Supermarket, in the Surf Shop section, on a low shelf of the island with the teddy bears. Reward: Developer's No. 2, the baseball bat "Cr33zz Revenge For Endless Crunch" (5 diamonds, 1 battery, $10,000).
Orange Skull: in the Supermarket from the sewers (after "Market Journey", Act 2 Chapter 6): behind the stairs in a cart. Drop-off: in the sewer toward City Hall, in the large area climb the ladder on the left and in the door on the right place the skull in the pile on the left. Reward: Developer's No. 1, Electro Body Military Knife (5 diamonds, 1 battery, $10,000).

References

Lost: clear the Watchtower at the start, kill the zombies in the garage and go in: a radio talks about the Oceanic flight that crashed on an island. Pimp My Ride: in the mission near the end of the Village (the truck turned into a tank), the mechanic says he is going to "Pimp your ride".

Easy Achievements

10 Heads Are Better Than 1: after getting the assault rifle, get in a car and shoot nearby zombies in the head: the counter does not reset until you kill in another way, even if you die.
Oh, No You Don't (only with Sam B after the Trip skill): in Chapter 16 "Locked Up", after the checkpoint, go around the control room; on the staircase going down you find the Ram: make it follow you up and down, leave the door open (it cannot get through) and bring it almost to death; the final blow must be the trip.

Steam Achievements
