How to Unlock Characters (Story Mode)
- Saiyan Saga: defeat Raditz, Nappa, Yajirobe and Kame Sennin to unlock them; complete the saga for Tao Pai Pai.
- Frieza Saga: defeat Guldo, Recoome, Burter, Jeice and Ginyu (twice for Ginyu and Jeice); Frieza second form (1 time), third (2), final form (3). Super Saiyan Goku: reach the third battle against final-form Frieza.
- Android Saga: Dr. Gero (defeat him with Krillin), Cell first form (with Piccolo), second form (twice), Cell Jr. (with Super Saiyan 2 Gohan). Complete the saga for Perfect Cell and Teen Gohan Super Saiyan 2.
- Majin Buu Saga: Dabura (with Super Saiyan 2 Gohan), Majin Vegeta (with Goku), Super Saiyan 2 Goku (defeat Majin Vegeta), Super Saiyan 3 Goku (defeat good Majin Buu), Gotenks (first Super Buu), Super Buu (3 times), Vegito (defeat Super Buu with him), Kid Buu (complete the saga).
- Shadow Dragon Saga: Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta unlock in the fight against Omega Shenron (Vegeta the third time). Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta: complete the saga. Super Saiyan Gogeta: complete "Fusion Reborn".
- Others: Bardock ("The Father of Goku" scenario), Tapion (defeat him with Kid Trunks in "Dragon's Fury"), Pikkon (with Goku in "Fusion Reborn"), Pan and Uub (complete all the DBZ stories in the Baby Saga), Kid Goku and Great Ape Kid Goku (complete the Majin Buu Saga).
- Ultimate Battle Z (European, Australian and Japanese versions only): Frieza Soldier (lane 2), Appule (4), Cyborg Tao (6), Demon King Piccolo (8), Pilaf Machine (10).
Other Unlockables
- Great Ape form: after defeating Nappa you receive a Power Ball: fuse it with a Saiyan.
- Hidden scenario "Beautiful Treachery... a Zarbon": in the Frieza Saga, battle 01, defeat Dodoria; it contains 9 battles.
- Bulma's Desert costume: Ultimate Battle Z at 100%, from the Data Center.
- Tournaments: Cell Games (win the World Martial Arts Tournament), Mr. Satan's Tournament (win the Cell Games), 5-Round Tournament (win Mr. Satan's Tournament), Final Tournament (win the 5-Round).
- Fusions: Gotenks (Goten + Trunks), Gogeta (Goku + Vegeta), Vegito (with the Potara), Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta.
- Grandpa Gohan: defeat General Tao in the Saiyan Saga (Dragon Adventure) for the Master Pupil technique, then on the Mountain Road get the Fox Mask from Yamcha and fuse them.
Dragon Balls and Easy Money
- Finding them: destroy the fragile objects on the map and head toward the ball; also win the battles. When you have all seven, go to the white spot on the map. In the Namek and City levels they are easier to find; use the Radar.
- Fastest route: in the first 4 episodes of the Saiyan Saga (Dragon Adventure) you find the whole set: the 7th, 3rd and 6th in "Mysterious Alien Warrior" (North, East and South City), the 1st in "Kakarot" (East City), the 4th and 2nd in "Gohan and Piccolo" (Central and South City), the 5th in "Saiyan Blood" (East City). Re-enter the cities a few times if the objects don't appear.
- Three wishes: collect the balls on Namek and visit Porunga. To summon Porunga easily, hand in the 7 balls in the Saiyan Saga without summoning Shenron: after the Final Battle scenario you can summon Porunga.
- Easy money: once you reach the Majin Buu Saga, as Fat Buu go to the Mountain Road: Yamcha offers you a challenge. If you hold out (or beat him) you receive 1,000,000 Zeni, +4 equipment slots and the Fox Mask capsule. Repeat from the scenario select.
- Zeni from the Saibamen (Saiyan Saga, Fateful Brothers event): each victory gives a green Z item from the Saibamen set, sellable at Baba for 150,000 Zeni. Buy the 4 purple Z Items: two pairs become Halo and Majin Seal, which halve the cost of Destructive Technique 2.
- Combat: vary your attacks so you don't get blocked; with Super Saiyan 3/4 Goku, Vegeta and Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta hit the giants with frontal attacks. Tapion's finishing move works against all the giants.
