Cheats and Secrets for Super Smash Bros. Brawl on WII

Introduction and Game Plot

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is Nintendo's fighting game featuring characters from many series, here in the Wii version. This page lists the modes and options that unlock as you play. All-Star mode is unlocked by unlocking all the bonus characters, the Boss Battle by completing SSE mode, and the More Rules option by achieving a certain number of KOs in Standard Brawl. The conditions are simple but take a long time to achieve.

Unlocking Characters

Every character has a direct method (with alternatives) or can be added to the party in Subspace Emissary (SSE) mode. In SSE mode, unlocking R.O.B. and finishing certain levels is required for various events.

Captain Falcon: complete Classic Mode on Normal difficulty or higher in under 20 minutes and defeat him in the next encounter. Alternatives: 70 offline matches, or in SSE.
Falco: complete the 100-Man Brawl (or 50 offline matches, or SSE).
Ganondorf: complete Classic Mode on Hard difficulty with Link or Zelda (or 200 offline matches, or SSE).
Jigglypuff: complete SSE and in the Sewers on the map, near the end (after the giant Diddy Kong), swim toward the door and fight him. Alternatives: events 1-20 after SSE, or 350 offline matches.
Lucario: defeat him in SSE with Meta Knight in the Icicle Mountain level (or the 5 Target Tests with any character, or 100 offline matches).
Luigi: Classic Mode on Easy difficulty without continues (or 22 offline matches, or defeat him in SSE).
Marth: complete Classic Mode (or 10 brawls, or defeat him in SSE).
Mr. Game & Watch: all Target Tests at the same difficulty with 30 different characters (or 250 offline matches).
Ness: 5 offline matches (or reflect 10 projectiles, or defeat him in SSE).
R.O.B.: 160 offline matches (or 250 different trophies, or SSE).
Snake: 15 matches on the Shadow Moses Island level (or 130 offline matches, or in SSE inside the Halberd).
Sonic: Classic Mode with 10 characters (or 300 offline matches). In SSE he appears before Tabuu: after defeating and saving him, he is unlocked.
Toon Link: complete SSE and add him to the party by going to "The Forest" (first door near the start). Alternatives: Classic Mode or 400 offline matches.
Wolf: complete SSE, then Boss Battles mode with Fox or Falco; defeat Wolf after his challenge (or 450 offline matches).
Sheik: on the character select screen, in the Zelda/Sheik area, press 2 (Wii Remote), A (Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller or GameCube) to switch from Zelda to Sheik.
Zero Suit Samus: choose Samus and at the "Ready to Fight!" message hold Minus + Plus (Wii Remote), Nunchuk Z + Plus, R + Plus (Classic Controller) or R + Start (GameCube).

Modes and Stages

All-Star Mode: unlock all the bonus characters.
Boss Battles: complete SSE mode.
"More Rules" option: 200 KOs in Standard Brawl.
Crazy Hand: reach Master Hand in Classic in under 9 minutes on Hard difficulty or higher without continues.
Bonus stages: 75m (20 brawls with Donkey Kong), Big Blue (10 with Captain Falcon), Green Greens (20 with Kirby), Luigi's Mansion (3 with Luigi), Icicle Mountain (10 fights in the Halberd), Jungle Japes (10 fights in any Melee stage), Pokémon Stadium (10 fights in Pokémon Stadium 2), Green Hill Zone (unlock Sonic), Great Sea (unlock Toon Link), Flat Zone 2 (unlock Mr. Game & Watch), Mario Bros. (event #19 Wario Bros.), Pillar of Halberd (event #25), Electroplankton (event #28), Hanenbow ("Flowers Bloom in the Echoes").
Extra events: events 11-20 (5 of the first 10), 21-28 (R.O.B. and Subspace Level), 29-40 (all the hidden ones), 41 (all 40). Co-op: 9-13 (R.O.B. and Subspace), 14-20 (10 co-op ones and all the hidden ones), 21 (all 20).
Parts for the Stage Builder: Edits A (10 VS modes on Stage Builder stages), B (create 5 stages), C (create 15 stages).
Target Tests: level 2 (Medium): 2 times on Easy or 1 on Medium; level 3 (Hard): 2 times on Medium or 1 on Hard; level 4: 2 times on Hard or 1 on Very Hard; level 5 (Intense): 1 time on Very Hard.
Virtual Console Trials: Donkey Kong (play over 10 hours), F-Zero (Captain Falcon in the party in SSE), Super Mario Bros. 2 (win over 5 times in VS with Peach), Super Mario World (Yoshi's Island over 3 times), Ocarina of Time (play as Toon Link over 10 times).

Trophies and Music

Trophies: Master Hand (Classic with 20 characters), Tom Nook (1,000 coins), Kapp'n (300 more feet of swimming), Peanut Popgun (Break the Targets level 2), Stafy (level 1 with 10 characters).
Assist Trophies: Advance Wars (300 fights), Isaac (200), Ray MK III (100), Barbara (25 CDs), Gray Fox (unlock Snake), Shadow the Hedgehog (unlock Sonic).
Music: Menu 2 (all 35 characters), Staff Credits (Classic on Hard), Ice Climbers (Classic on Easy), Icicle Mountain (Classic on Normal), Taru Taru Heights (All-Star on Easy), Dragon Roost Island, Molgera Battle and The Great Sea (unlock Toon Link), Snake Eater (15 fights on Shadow Moses Island), Peach's Castle (all Melee stages), Pokémon Center (200 stickers), Mach Rider (50 enemies in Endless Brawl), 100-Man Melee 1 (100-Man Brawl in under 4 minutes), Bob-omb Battlefield (50 hours in Versus).
Stickers: Boo (over 900 feet in the Home-Run Contest), Phyllis (All-Star on Normal), Running Chibi-Robo (Classic on Easy), Ryuta Ippongi (100-Man in under 3:30), Liquid Snake (defeat 10 Leagues).

Tricks

Easy CDs and stickers: unlock the Stage Builder and Edits B. Create a stage with conveyor belts around a wall and a climbable platform. With a second controller, in the options turn everything off except Sandbag and set items to high. Play in the stage, have the second player climb onto the platform and hit the Sandbags repeatedly: only CDs and stickers appear.
Easy home run: turn around right away, grab the bat and throw it at the Sandbag, catch it in mid-air and repeat until 2 seconds are left; then go behind the bag and destroy it: at least 1,500 feet every time. Do not wait for the bag to be still.
Combos in Training: choose "Help Yes" and the smart bomb from the menu: pick it up and throw it at the character. With 3 spicy Super Curries you can reach about 155 combos (up to 367 with Marth).
K.K. Slider concert: set the system date to Saturday between 20:00 and 23:59 and fight in Smashville.
Giant Jigglypuff: Bridge of Eldin stage, break the Smash Ball, when the terrain returns pass through the opening and press B.
Ike: when you are about to be hit by an item such as the Smart Bomb, press Up + B to perform Aether with the sword alone in the air: you resist the backward launch.
Inverted music: in "My Music" the Star Fox themes Corneria and Venom are swapped.
